Is buying carbon credits from existing forests the best way to spend our money?

This is one of the many reasons we founded Greenzone. It made no sense to us to spend money on existing forests worldwide, or planting new trees somewhere else in the world that often die of neglect. This news article furthers that idea.
There is only so much money that is going to be spend towards planting trees. Period. Why reduce the amount of money that can be going to grow and encourage new tree growth, to spend it giving money towards people who own private forests? I guess the argument could be made that this would encourage them NOT to reduce the forest, but now at what cost? As long as you are going to encourage businesses and individual consumers to support tree growing, why not make sure we make the most out of every dollar they spend – they are only going to spend so much.
