And for good reason! This news story sums up many of the reasons we founded Greenzone. Where does the money go that you spend on offsets? How much of the money is spent on administration, etc. How much of the money actually goes into the project you are buying credits, etc for?
At Greenzone, 90% of the money you spend on credits goes towards TREES. Out of the remaining 10%, 5% of that is paid to an inspector WHEN the credit is sold, as well as the other 5% goes towards Greenzone to help us pay for the websites, programming, PR, development, etc. We are a for profit company, yet I bet we use up less money delivering our product that most non-profits do. Why is that? WE DID NOT GET INTO THIS JUST FOR THE MONEY. While we do need to make a minimum amount of money to stay in business, our primary goal is to provide an objective 3rd party service that connects tree planters / growers with consumers & companies that want to plant trees. As that demand grows, we see more openings for profiteering and waste of a lot of people’s good money without sound, practical approaches with how to deliver this ONE PART of the solution to reduce carbon.
